My Planes
The following are some photos of my planes with a little information loosely in the order I bought them:
0) Is this where and how it all started years ago ?
1) Fighterbird (my first two channel plane) in the background, Aerobird challenger my second plane which is three channel and my Aerobird extreme that I had airfreighted from Australia (I couldn't wait).
There also seems to be a cup of coffee in the picture but I don't think that will fly.
2) Mountain models SmoothE available from electric-planes.co.uk . The model in the picture is the stock setup with the GWS motor and gearbox and the slowfly wing. I now have a brushless himax motor and the sport wing and the transformation is incredible. This plane is a build from balsa kit, it is cheap and an excellent trainer for ailerons. I would recommend this kit most highly. The upgrade to brushless motor and lipo batteries and slow fly wing will cost around £120.............. well worth it for the performance upgrade.
Slowfly wing and GWS brushed motor setup
Sport Wing and Brushless setup (and wife with holey jeans)
3) Ripmax Easy Street. This model was a step too far too soon for me, it flys on a brushed speed 600 motor and is very heavy with 8 Sanyo RC2400 cells. I crashed this plane 3 times and once spent over 2 hours looking for it in a wheat field. I still fly all my planes but this is my least favorite. I am going to remove the gear and put it in a new Multiplex twin Jet I have just bought.
4) Multiplex Twinstar. This model looks terrible in its stock colours so I decided to cover it with tape to pick it out more in flight. Other than this it is stock with the 400 permax motors and Gunther props. I fly it on the same 8 cell Sanyo Nicads that I use for my spitfire. This model is an excellent plane to move up to from the aerobird. This plane is very stable and will fly at various speeds. I am told that it is the biggest selling radio control plane in the world.
5) Focke Wulf 190A
This is a Scorpio kit and fly's very well on the outrunner brushless motor I have fitted it with an 8 x 4E APC propeller. I fly this plane on 8 KAN 1050 nimh cells. It needs a good chuck to get it launched. It is very scale in flight and has a wide speed range. One disadvantage however is the wings are glued in place and once built gear etc is difficult to get at.
6) Ripmax spitfire together with the FW190A the spitfire has a graupner speed 600 turbo and a 8 x 4 graupner prop. I fly this on 8 Sanyo 2400 mah NiCads. The performance on this setup is excellent, later however you will see my second spit that I have on a brushless setup.
Spitfire on finals over a farmers wheat field...... lovely to land on loads of 'hands' waiting to catch you. Yes I know it looks high and the hedge doesn't look far away but I got it down with loads to spare.
7) GWS Spitfire. I bought this plane because it was cheap (around £40 for the airframe) and because I thought it would be a simple model to fly in the field near my house. I equipped it with a small e flight brushless motor with GWS gearbox and fly it on 8 KAN 650 mah Nimh cells. I have to say that even on this setup it flys like a dog. It is rather heavy and I still can't roll it. I know many people are great fans of the GWS series of warbirds but I am afraid I am not. I would pay the extra £ 70 and buy an alpha model every time.
Still she looks quite nice and I still have fun flying her trying to make that elusive roll with this heavy little flying brick !.
8) This is a Scorpio kit and fly's very well on the outrunner brushless motor. I have it on a large APC prop and use 8 KAN 1050 Nimh cells. I am going to try it on a 3 cell Lipo 1250 mah 15C pack and see how she goes. These Scorpio models are good kits but the foam is rather soft and there is no protection on the underside. This model also has the disadvantage that the wing is glued in position. Again I feel that the Alfa kits are a better buy for the buck. I need to carry out some mods to this model to get the spinner closer to the fuselage, wont be easy as it is all glued together.
9) Ripmax spitfire. Same as the previous ripmax spit but this on has and Axi 2820/10 and a rather large
11 x 7E APC prop. The performance is incredible but on my Sanyo RC2400's I only get about 5 minutes of flight time. I am going to have to splash out about £100 for some 5000 mah Lipos. These Spitfires are excellent value at around £65 for the airframe. I intend to convert one to nitro just to see the difference.
10) Flying Styro Kit ME109. This is a very nicely detailed model but is a little small and it is quite difficult to fly in uses a standard 300 brushed motor with a gearbox. I fly it on 8 KAN 650 nimh cells.
11) Alfa models P51 D Mustang. This is a wonderfully detailed model from the Alfa range which I fly on the stock brushed motor set up from Alfa. I use 8 KAN 650 nimh cells. At some point I will put in the same brushless as in my other Alfa's but at the moment it is very nice on the stock setup. It rolls well and does lovely loops. Flight time on the 650 cells is about 6 minutes.

12) Parkzone F27 Stryker. This is a Ready to fly aircraft which includes everything you need including the Radio transmitter and flight battery and in car charger. I believe however you will need a second or third battery as it takes about 40 minutes to charge. This whole setup can be bought for around £130 which I think is excellent value. This model is not for the beginner as it is quite fast. If you were to get some stick time on something like the aerobird or easystar first I am sure you could move up to this. This is quite a sturdy model and can easily be repaired with that wonderful substance 5 minute epoxy. It is quite aerobatic and does nice rolls and is a pleasure to fly on a summers evening just before sunset.

13) Alfa model Mig 15 electric ducted fan. This is another very nice model from the alfa range. It is fitted with an MP Jet brushless motor and flys on a 3 cell lipo 1500 mah battery. The model looks lovely in the air and makes a very distinctive ducted fan sound. Flight time are excellent at about 10 minutes, plenty of time for a model of this speed. This model requires a good strong hand launch into wind and the model takes a little while to get up to speed, once it does however it is very responsive.

14) Alfa models P47D Thunderbolt. This is a wonderfully detailed model from the Alfa range which I fly on a Typhoon 6/20 outrunner brushless motor, a jeti 18 speed controller and 3 cell 1500 mah lipo battery. This is the best set up I have on any of my models and I get over 10 minutes flight time and she will go vertical at full power. The prop I use is an 8 x 3.8 APC slowfly. This model is available from Slough Radio Control Models in various deals which offer excellent value but I would not use the servo in the deal for the ailerons as in my view it is too weak. I use a GWS Naro + F/HP/BB which works well but does need a little cutting of the wing to get it in.

15) Alfa models FW190. This is another wonderfully detailed model from the Alfa range which I fly on a Typhoon 6/20 outrunner brushless motor, a jeti 18 speed controller and 3 cell 1500 mah lipo battery. This is another excellent set up and again I get over 10 minutes flight time I use an 8 x 4E APC Prop which gives excellent scale performance. This model is available from Slough Radio Control Models in various deals which offer excellent value, but I would not use the servo in the deal for the ailerons as in my view it is too weak. I use a GWS Naro + F/HP/BB which works well but does need a little cutting of the wing to get it in.

16) Multiplex Micro Jet. This is in my opinion a lovely little model that provides excellent fun and an adrenaline boost as well. Many people have trouble launching this model and many have fell prey to the dip and left roll due to torque. The secret is 4 - 5 mm up elevon on launch with a little extra on up on the right elevon to counteract the torque. Then all you need is a good hard chuck into wind and get your hands to the controls quick. I fly this model on 8 KAN 1050 cells, a Graupner 5.5 x 4.3 cam prop and a brushed 480 size motor (cost £4.99). With this setup it is very fast and great fun. I know many turn this model into a bullet with a brushless setup and I am sure I will try this one day.
17) Alpha F44U Corsair........ Being delivered in 2 days time !!!!!!
