Some hints and tips
General Tips
1) When you are making a kit and something doesn't look right or strong enough it probably isn't. There can be a tendency to think that the manufacture always gets it right....... They don't so if you want to modify it a little it is your model so feel free.
2) Glue is weight so use enough but not too much.
3) Get yourself a reeming tool it will save you hours of problems with props and other items. They are cheap and well worth it.
4) Always paint a model with a little weakly mixed wall paper paste prior to applying water slide decals, they will stick loads better.
5) Always remove the inner control cables in boden cables and clean and oil them when making a new model. Often models have been in the box a long time and this can make the cable stiff and over stress servo's.
6) Beware of buying models from overseas on the internet as you can be charged up to 35% of the cost of the model as additional taxes when it enters the UK. This cost me over £100 on the Mig 15.
7) In answer to the question 'what throws do I need on my ailerons'. A seasoned modeler replied 'just enough to turn the model around'. This is good advice when learning or when flying a model for the first time. You can always increase the throws and have some fun once you have got used to the model. This way it has a better chance of returning to base in one piece.
8) To help reduce interference (Glitching) on electric models I always use ferrite rings on all servo and speed control wires. You must wrap the cable at least 5 times round the ring and the ring should be as close to the receiver as possible. It is also a good idea to twist the same wires before you plug them into the receiver.
